SOL-UV LegioDes® (three barrier system)

There is a wide variety of systems on the market to eliminate legionella bacteria. Most of them however do not deliver the required results. These include thermal disinfection (heating water), chemical disinfection (chlorine compounds/chlorine dioxide), electrolytical disinfection (chlorine brines produced at source) and UV radiation alone, with or without ultrasound.

The biggest problem, when fighting legionella, is biogenic deposits (biofilm) on surfaces and inside pipes within a water cycle. Equally troublesome are so-called incorporated (embedded) microorganisms or protozoans like amoebas. They contain high numbers of legionella and contaminants, which are used by microorganisms as a protective shield to escape the disinfectant process of the water. This way the water system becomes contaminated again and again through surviving legionella bacteria and other microorganisms. In addition high concentrations of oxidative disinfectants like chlorine or chlorine dioxide could be used, but the threshold value for save drinking water (according to the drinking water ordinance) would be exceeded considerably.

That’s why SOL-UV has developed LegioDes®, a unique three barrier system.

How does LegioDes® work?

An initial disinfection of the water circulation system, using oxidative cleaning and disinfection supplies (LegioDes® C is recommended), removes the so-called biogenic deposits or biofilm. After that, the cold water passes through the first barrier, a membrane filter (initial and micro filtration). SOL-UV AquaInduct-profi® can help reduce excessive calcium and magnesium deposits within the water circulation system and puts a protective coating around the inside of the pipes.

After the membrane filter the cold water is sent through the second barrier, a certified UV radiation unit. Finally the filtered and UV treated cold water is sent to the water outlet or channelled into the warm water circulation system. The warm water circulation system has consequently been upgraded with a temperature resistant O3 - UV combination system – the third barrier.

Besides effectively disinfecting the water, this system also reduces the TOC content (total organic carbon), which is one of the most important nutrients for microorganisms.

Composition of the unit

The units, which are made with high quality, water-resistant materials, consist of two modules and the control box (various control options available). The installation is carried out by us or by one of our partner organisations (licensed dealers).
